"it's a crime i never told you 'bout the diamonds in your eyes"

24.4.03

Haldern 2003
Newsletter of April 25th 2003

20 years Haldern-Pop: The circle closes, if the direction is correct.

Some words about our philosophy:
Haldern in search of the new superstar... Or, what is the use of cloned shit without any passion? Nothing. When one wants a Best Of, one has already surrendered on one’s own phantasy. Columbus would still curve around Corsica. Or in other words: The mass of simultaneous „super events“ has to stimulate our inventive capacities, as while the superstars keep on debating the anonymity of the colossal, their economic appendixes, the managers, have long since featherd their nests.

One should not discuss the sensuality of good music with one’s tax consultant, otherwise caculations will dictate over being or not being. We in Haldern prefer to decide intuitive and rely on flowers previously undiscoverd, to make them a bouquet of surprises. On the one hand we love the old lady in her little cornershop but on the other hand we prefer to buy our milk in the supermarket.

So we break up this local circle for our personal benefit and open a door to mental schizophrenia.
We instead stay moderate, modest an to the point, otherwise we’d go astray.

Latest confirmations:
mindful of the explanation made above we have the pleasure to announce the following artists to play haldern 2003:

THE SENSATION!

Patti Smith (only German concert in 2003!)
We are extraordinarily happy that this icon of post-war musical history found the time to play Haldern. Patti Smith stands for so many different aspects between music, literature and performings arts. She finds herself spun into such a ramified system of referencies, also historically, that we only can refer to the links below – to keep it brief:

Aqualung (GB) For Matt Hales it took quite a wile before he finally broke through with a song for a New Beetle-ad: „The strange an the beautiful“.

Ed Harcourt (GB) This young lad from Brighton has the voice of Tom Waits, Mercury Rev’s producer and in „Here Be Monsters“ he invoces a bunch of ghosts that we never want to get red of again. A rollercoaster-ride between lovesong and greasy Rock’n’Roll. Learn more on www.edharcourt.com

The Raveonettes (DK)
This handsome danish twosome sounds as good as it looks: Three decades of poip history are looted without restraint and served with good-humored mono-appeal. Their gig at NYC’s punk-mekka CBGB’s got them a lot of attention. Read more on: www.theraveonettes.com or www.haldern-pop.de

Xploding Plastix (N)
these two guys hailing from Bergen, i guess, can’t deny a certain congeniality with their Belgian colleagues from 2manyDJs. Except that first metioned drag their dancable craziness from the hard-disks of their laptops. They blend wild rare grooves, sexy percussion and horny-ass latin-elements in their DJ-sets and kidnapp you into a dance-crazy world where everything goes.
